VE Day 75th Anniversary

Two small girls waving their flags in the rubble of Battersea on VE Day

The photo was taken on 8th May 1945 in London. Such a powerful, emotional image. They’ve grown up in a frightening world surrounded by devastation, which they would have considered normal.

I decided to colourise the black and white photo in celebration of VE Day 75th Anniversary.

Its all in the details

Colourising brings out all the tiny details that may have once went unnoticed. From the emotions, dust on their shoes and faded union jack flags.
